Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are prevalent among school teachers worldwide, impacting their physical health, well-being, and professional performance. Neck/Shoulder and Low back pain are significant and common occupational health concerns, consequently impacting work attendance and performance. The current study aims to explore the prevalence of shoulder, neck and low back pain; Identification of risk factors associated with the development of neck, shoulder and low back pain; Determine the relationship, if any, between the risk factors and prevalence for neck, low back and shoulder pain among teachers. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among a sample of school teachers who met the inclusion criteria (n = 400) from various educational institutions in Multan. The survey collected data on demographic characteristics, work-related factors, ergonomic practices, and the presence of MSD symptoms. This study highlights increased prevalence rates for both neck and shoulder pain and low back pain amongst teachers, with a variety of associated risk factors. Preliminary research indicates that high workloads, prolonged sitting, repetitive jobs, and inadequate workstation ergonomics are common risk factors that contribute to MSDs in Multan school teachers. Comprehending these risk factors is imperative to execute focused interventions and enhance ergonomics in order to lessen the impact of MSDs and support the health and welfare of educators. In order to investigate more variables and create all-encompassing plans for MSD treatment and prevention in the educational field, more study is necessary.
